By Aaron Humes: A plume of smoke that has attracted many explanations, some of them supernatural in origin, appears to be more prosaically caused by a simple forest fire.
Authorities from the Departments of Forestry and Geology and Petroleum have completed a visit to the area located behind the “Sleeping Giant” monument of the Hummingbird Highway.
We are told their investigations concluded that the likely cause of the smoke is a “smoldering detritus forest fire.” Its cause and origin remain unknown at this time.
We are seeking official comment and will continue to follow this developing story.
