By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Tracy Taegar Panton was recently voted as Deputy Chair for Women and Minorities of the Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU).
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness is the Chair of the Board of the CDU.
The CDU describes itself as “an alliance of moderate and center-right political parties in the Caribbean region upholding Democracy and the Rule of Law.”
The CDU includes democratic parties from the Caribbean such as the Jamaica Labour Party, the Grenada New National Party, the Dominica Freedom Party, the People’s Action Movement from Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Saint Lucia United Workers Party, the New Democratic Party from St Vincent and the Grenadines, and the People’s Democratic Movement from the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Other members of the CDU Board are Roland Bhola of Grenada who is the Deputy Chair for Organizational Support, Johnson Boston from Dominica who is Deputy Chair for External Affairs and Policy, Secretary-General and Public Relations Officer Nick Francis from St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Youth Chair Kendron Christopher from Jamaica.
The CDU is also an affiliate member of the International Democrat Union.
