Police identify man killed during 8-miles robbery

By BBN Staff: Police have positively identified the man shot and killed during a robbery in Western Paradise Village, 8-miles on the George Price Highway, as 19-year-old Belize city resident Ashton Samuels.

Police say that, around 9:15 a.m., Samuels and three others entered Jacky’s fast-Food and Supermarket, apparently armed with guns, and robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of cash. The culprits then went into the kitchen of the establishment and held 42-year-old Chu Rong Zhang at gunpoint and took his wallet before bashing him on the head, causing him to lose consciousness momentarily.

When Zhang came to, he grabbed his licensed shotgun, went to the back of his business, and opened fire on the culprits, who were trying to jump his barbed wire back fence. Samuels was killed on the spot, while one of his associates, 20-year-old Tyler Ramclam, received gunshot wounds to the left calf. Police apprehended Ramclam shortly after the incident and transported him, as well as Zhang to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Zhang was treated and discharged and Tyler Ramclam was admitted in a stable condition. Police found several expended 12 gauge cartridges, a pair of Nike slippers, a black cap, a .38 pistol with 6 live rounds, and two black pellet guns.
