Opposition UDP demands disclosure of terms of settlement with ousted Central Bank Governor

By Aaron Humes: The Opposition United Democratic Party continues to pursue the issue of the abrupt termination of Central Bank Governor Manuel Vasquez.

Specifically, in a press statement, it demanded Government disclose the terms of its “amicable settlement” with Vasquez, who was terminated earlier this month after less than five months on the job.

It questions what this will cost taxpayers in light of the belt-tightening measures undertaken just a few months ago, and so in accordance with #planbelize and good governance principles, it demands the disclosure of the full compensation package and its cost to Government and to Belizeans.

Vasquez stood down, writing to staff in an email of being opposed by elements within and without the Government in his battle to keep the Bank structurally independent as it is its remit.
