By Aaron Humes: As of September 7 according to figures released by Cabinet, 173,077 persons or 40.2 percent of the population had received at least one dose of any COVID-19 vaccine. This represents an increase of 5,481 new vaccinations over last week’s numbers.

Also as of September 7, 76,279 persons or 17.1 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated, an increase of 6,365 more Belizeans over last week’s 69,924.
Since the roll-out of the Pfizer vaccines, 14,875 Belizeans, ages 12 to 17 years, have received their first shot of the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is encouraging Belizeans to go back for their second shots to boost effectiveness. It is too early to evaluate whether a third such shot would be needed.
