By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health and Wellness has sent condolences on the passing of Dr. Jose Can, traffic accident victim and physician assigned to the Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town.
In a statement, the Ministry said Dr. Can was assigned to the COVID-19 vaccination team since March 2021, and described him as “very humble, dedicated and diligent.”
It added, “He will be greatly missed by the members of the vaccination team, extended staff at hospital, and the patients with whom he interacted.” It said it was offering prayers and condolences to his family on behalf of fellow staff at the Northern Regional, the wider medical community, and all healthcare workers.
Meanwhile, police have confirmed that the accident occurred after Dr. Can’s Ford Escort collided with a white Toyota Hilux at Mile 20 on the Blue Creek Road while traveling to San Felipe. Police believe Dr. Can lost control of his vehicle.
The Hilux was driven by Customs officer Brendon Lopez from San Ignacio, and was carrying three police officers and one BDF soldier, who all sustained minor injuries. Police investigations continue.
