By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “As one of the largest food shows, thousands of visitors got introduced to some of the products BELIZE has available for the Taiwanese markets,” said the Embassy of Belize to Taiwan of Belize’s participation at the recently held Taipei International Food Show in Taipei, capital of Taiwan.
“On display were our one-of-a-kind lobsters, Marie Sharp’s peppers and jams, products from our cacao, cocktails from our rums, honey, and juice concentrates,” said the Belize Embassy.
The Embassy said “the passing of the Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA) will make exportation and importation of Belizean products mutually beneficial for Belize and Taiwan.
“Belize is the only one of the three Central American allies of Taiwan that hasn’t had an FTA (Free Trade Agreement) or ECA,” said Ambassador Dr Candice Pitts. The other two countries are Guatemala and Honduras.
“This ECA offers tariff reductions that will advance trade between the two countries.”
Ambassador Pitts said the Legislative Yuan of Taiwan passed the ECA between Belize and Taiwan earlier this month.
