Man pistol-whipped by police during violent New Years altercation

Our newsroom has received a video of an altercation between police and civilians over the New Year weekend, in which one man was pistol whipped by police.

The video shows the officers in between a fence and vehicle fighting with someone being detained. Another man in a red shirt is seen attacking the man on the ground from behind the police officer.

During the exchange, the officers wrestle a man to the ground and one officer pulls out a handgun then hits the man on the ground to the side of the head while onlookers gather around screaming.

No official statement has been issued by the police department thus far regarding the incident.
