Police investigating shooting that led to damaged vehicle

Posted: Wednesday, March 16, 2022. 9:06 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A vehicle owner was caught up in a shooting incident this evening before six on Western Avenue, Belize City.

Charles Young, a mechanic of Police Street, told Police that around 5:30 his white Lincoln Town Car was being towed from Hulse Garage on the Philip Goldson Highway by a taxi man of the last name Buckley, driving a red Ford Explorer, headed for Mahogany Street. Buckley was accompanied by a slim-built, dark-skinned man unknown to him in his front passenger seat.

At Western Avenue, they were approached and overtaken by a slim-built, “red-skin” man wearing a blue t-shirt and black dirt bike and a face-covering helmet whom he was not able to recognize.

The shooter opened fire on the Explorer, causing the passenger to jump out and run up Western Avenue toward Lords’ Ridge Cemetery, the gunman in pursuit.

The gunfire caused damage to the Lincoln’s right-side front fender but it appears no one was hurt, as Buckley sped off, the passenger fled as well and the gunman also ran off.

Police investigation continues.
