By Aaron Humes: Police investigators have theorized that prior altercations and threats lay behind the death of Santa Elena Town resident Henry Baptist, 44, who was found shot to death around six a.m. Sunday morning on the Cristo Rey Road.
Communications Director for the Belize Police Department, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood detailed: “[Baptist] has had his fair share of run-ins with the law, and apparently there were persons in Cristo Rey village in the past that he may have offended, and those persons were sending threats that if he visited that area, what would take place and I must say that they lived true to their threats.”
Baptist had been attending a wake for a relative in the area, but according to ASP Yearwood, he left the site late on Saturday evening alone and not telling anyone where he was going. He was not heard from again before his body was discovered in a secluded area off the roadside.
Police have detained one person as their investigations continue.
