Speaker restores order after heated outbursts: Members made to withdraw comments

By Aaron Humes, Belmopan: Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow and member for Orange Walk South Jose Mai have been made to withdraw comments made in “unparliamentary language” during the Budget Debate.

The Speaker has warned that any further issues will result in a member being made to withdraw for the remainder of the sitting and that members are in warning of standing orders on unparliamentary language and confining remarks of the substance of the Budget.

The Debate was suspended after a heated exchange between Barrow and Fort George Representative Henry Charles as well as others. Since taking over as Speaker of the House, Valerie Woods, has made a consistent point to maintain order in the House and for parliamentarians to carry themselves as men and women becoming of sitting in the “Honorable” institution.
