National Cycling Championships set for June 12, 19

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) said the National Cycling Championships have been scheduled for Sunday, June 12, and Sunday, June 19.

The Individual Time Trial (ITT) will be on Sunday, June 12 on John Smith Road as in 2021.

The following week, the Men’s Elite, U23, Masters, and Junior/Youth, and Women’s will be run on the Philip Goldson and George Price Highways.

The Men’s Elite, U23, and Masters will start in Orange Walk Town on the Philip Goldson Highway. In Ladyville, the race will turn into the John Smith Road, come out to the George Price Highway by Western Paradise at Mile 8, and head for the finish at Mount Hope. The Women’s and Men’s Junior/Youth will start at the Boom Cut-Off on the Philip Goldson Highway and follow the same route through the John Smith Road to finish at Mount Hope.

The CFB said the official notification will be sent out as soon as the International Cycling Union (UCI) confirms the dates.

In the Road Championship category, Justin Williams is the defending Elite Champion. Shawn Codd is the defending U23 Champion, Derrick Chavarria is the Junior Champion, and Brandon Cattouse is the Masters Champion. Alicia Thompson won the Women’s Road Championship in 2021.

In the ITT Championship category, Oscar Quiroz is the Elite Champion, Goran Gabourel is the Junior Champion, and Robert Liam Stewart is the Masters Champion. Nicole Gallego is the Women’s Champion.
