San Pedro Pirates beat Jewel Fury in overtime on way to NAWL A Finals

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Tamara Baptist scored from a penalty kick in the 98’ to tie the game 1-1 giving the San Pedro Pirates the ticket to the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) Final on a 3-2 aggregate score over defending champions Jewel Fury on Saturday evening at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.

After 90 minutes, Jewel Fury were up 1-0 in the second semifinal but the aggregate score was level at 2-2. San Pedro Pirates had won the first leg 2-1 at Ambergris Stadium in La Isla Bonita the previous Saturday. So, the two teams had to go to extra time to determine who would make it to the NAWL A Final.

Eris Galdámez had converted for Jewel Fury in the 71’ in the second semifinal at the Isidoro Beaton. Now, they were going for an additional 30 minutes.

San Pedro Pirates pushed hard and untied the match in the 8’ of extra time on that penalty shot by Baptist.

The 1-1 held to the final whistle that saw the sanpedranas celebrate as never before.

They are going to the NAWL A Final to face the Sagitun GIRLZ who eliminated NAWL subchampions Rumberas 6-0 on aggregate.

The Final is scheduled for Saturday, July 9 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
