Belize City man pleads guilty to wounding his ex-girlfriend and damaging her phone; ordered to pay compensation

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man was fined in court this week after pleading guilty to injuring his ex-girlfriend and breaking her phone.

Twenty-eight-year-old Reid Riverol appeared on Monday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court facing one count of wounding and one count of damage to property

He pleaded guilty to both charges and told the court in mitigation that he never intended for the situation to get out of control which is why he is taking responsibility for his actions.

For the wounding, Riverol was fined $1005.00 which he must pay by November 7, or he faces a year in jail in default. For the damage to property, he was fined $405.00 and was given until November 15, to pay or he will spend four months in jail for default.

The Magistrate also ordered Riverol to pay compensation to the victim in the sum of $550.00, the value of her damaged cell phone, which must be paid by October 15, 2022, or the court will seize personal belongings and sell them to cover the value of the compensation.
