Pathlight Belize inaugurates New Orange Walk Resource Center

Posted: Wednesday, July 20, 2022. 3:16 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Pathlight Belize inaugurated a new Orange Walk Resource Center.

Present at today’s event was Prime Minister John Briceno and Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceno.

“Partnership is key to keep our children in school and fight the multidimensional poverty families experience that impact the ability for children to stay in school,” the Special Envoy noted.

The Special Envoy also shared that data show that the transition between primary and secondary schools and the first two years of secondary school are where we lose many of our children within our education system.

“There are many reasons for this, including affordability, poverty, under-resourced schools, untrained teachers, and lack of support for our children throughout the education process to name a few,” she added.

Briceno says that through Pathlight, children benefit not only from tuition, fees, uniform, and books, but also, have access to digital devices, academic tutoring, psychosocial support, spiritual mentorship, leadership development, STEM, arts, and sports programs.

These opportunities ensure that the most vulnerable, especially girls, are able to become competent leaders, who can work, thrive, and cooperate in a dynamic and ever-more interconnected world, Briceno stated.
