Nigel Nicoli Freeman Jr. sentenced to 2 1/2 years for firearms offenses

By BBN Staff: Tonight, Belize City resident, 24-year-old Nigel FreemanJr. is spending the first night of a 2 1/2 year sentence at the Belize Central Prison after being convicted of two firearms offenses in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today.

Freeman appeared unrepresented in court, where he answered to one count of kept firearm without a license and kept ammunition without a license. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 2 years for the gun and 2 1/2 years for the bullets. The sentences will run concurrently.

Freeman was arrested on January 22, on Faber’s Road. Officers were responding to a call of shots fired and when they arrived in the area they went to an apartment building to search one of the rooms. The officers heard movement in the apartment and kicked in the door to find Freeman standing on a stove. He threw a gun into the ceiling and jumped off the stove when the officers entered and upon making checks, police found a .9mm pistol with 11 live rounds of ammunition.
