Belize Port Authority to host Maritime Youth Summer Camp

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Port Authority (BPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance will be hosting a series of Maritime Youth Summer Camps.

The camps will be open to children ages 7 to 15 for the period August 2-19, 2022.

The BPA says that the unique Maritime Summer Camp is designed to provide the participants an opportunity to take a dive into the maritime sector garnering knowledge and skills to safely operate and survive in a maritime environment through a fun and hands-on technique by certified and trained instructors.

The goal is for 25 youths to learn about water safety procedures, types of personal floating devices and how to use them, adopt the Help and Handle position, able to identify the different types of ropes, how to tie knots and hitches, how to apply first aid on drowning victims.

The camps will be held in 3 locations on the following dates:

August 2-6, 2022: Dangriga Town – Dangriga Town Hall from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm

August 8-12, 2022: San Ignacio Town – Victor Galvez Stadium from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm

August 15-19, 2022: Independence Village – Lord Michael Ashcroft Stadium from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm
