Inspirational Promotions hosts 10th annual trimming drive on Fabers Road

By Benjamin Flowers: Today marked the 10th year community organization Inspiration Promotions held its annual back-to-school haircut and hair braiding event for inner-city youth.

The organization celebrated the milestone with the event held at the YMCA compound on Fabers Road Extension today, by ensuring 200 boys and girls, the most ever catered to at the event, got their hair either cut or braided, as well as giving them a backpack full of school supplies, in preparation for the new academic year.

Edmond Staine, co-founder of Inspiration Promotions, told Breaking Belize News that the idea to host the event came from the organization’s other cofounder Brian Dena, and was coined because he saw that the children in his community and their families needed the support.

“We believe that education is the solution to poverty and so we want the kids to take pride in themselves and to go to school with a fresh cut or their hair neatly braided, to give them that boost in confidence on the first day,” Staine said. “We knew the struggles we had growing up and we tried to figure how best we can help those behind us, to make things a little easier for them.”

While the event was held in their community, Dena and Staine said that children from all over the city who were in need were welcome.

Apart from holding the haircut drive, Inspiration Promotions added a Christmas toy drive to their list of activities and partnered with the Port Loyola Organization for Women (PLOW) to open a resource Center on Kraal Road, Belize City, back in April. That project was done with support from the Interamerican Development Bank.
