Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman is Exemplary Educator, Annamay Ferguson

Today’s feature is on exemplary educator, Annamay Denise Ferguson.

Annamay is a dedicated educator who began building a career at the very young age of 13. 

She’s pursued her education moving from a Certificate in Education to completing her Associate and Bachelor’s degree in Primary Education.

Annamay started as a pupil teacher at the age of 13 at St. John’s Memorial Primary School in Placencia Village, her hometown.

In 1981, she was transferred to St. Andrew’s Primary School in San Ignacio Town, where she worked for a year before returning to her home village of Placencia.

In 1986, she was transferred to Anglican School in Independence, which is now defunct. 

In 1987, Annamay got married and began her family life with Rodwell Ferguson. They moved to Pomona Village and requested a transfer there.

In 1998, Annamay opened a private pre-school with a friend but returned to the classroom in 2000 at St. John’s Memorial Primary School in Placencia.

She moved back to Pomona with her husband in 2003, where he won his first electoral political representation and she was offered a teaching position at Hope Government School.

In 2008, Annamay moved to St. Matthew’s Anglican School and remains there today.

 She now serves as the Principal of St. Matthew’s Anglican School, since 2015. 

Annamay actively seeks local and international help to improve the physical and support structures of the school.

A major accomplishment is commencing a pre-school and special education center for her school to serve the children of the surrounding communities.
