By Aaron Humes: Belize is suddenly dealing with a spike in COVID-19 cases countrywide, according to new data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

A total of 259 new cases of the virus have been reported countrywide in the week of December 6 to 12, 2021, with 221 active cases at present.

90 of the new cases were reported in Belize City, ten in Hattieville, and seven each in Ladyville and San Pedro Town. The Cayo District reported 44 new cases including 14 in Belmopan and nine in San Ignacio and Santa Elena combined, while fewer numbers were reported in the northern and southern districts.

Belizeans are reminded to get tested if they show COVID symptoms and isolate to avoid the further spread of the virus, which has claimed 688 lives since its first appearance here.
