By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health and Wellness reports 228 new cases of COVID-19 during the post-Christmas period from December 28, 2022, to January 3, 2023.
There are currently 150 active cases of the virus countrywide, declining for the second straight week.
Two persons are hospitalized with the virus and the total number of cases countrywide since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic has passed 70 thousand, at 70,174.
Most of the cases are located in the center and south of the country, with Belize City reporting 50 of 67 cases across the Belize District (this includes San Pedro’s tally of five which is counted separately by the Ministry); 62 cases in the Cayo District; 29 cases in the Stann Creek District and 35 cases in the Toledo District.
Belizeans are reminded that even though COVID’s current subvariants appear milder in concentration, the most vulnerable are still in danger of dying if they are transmitted the virus and so cases must be reported and guidelines to avoid transmission followed.
