Posted: Tuesday, February 7, 2023. 2:49 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Authorities in Chile are battling the deadliest wildfires on record as a heatwave continues to affect the country, Reuters report.

The fires have consumed over 667,000 acres of land and claimed 24 lives.

As of Monday, there were 275 active fires and the fire department were combatting 69.

“Unity to face the tragedy, unity to rebuild ourselves,” President Gabriel Boric said.

In 2022, the World Meteorological Organization said the country was experiencing a “mega drought”.

Argentina, Spain and Mexico have all sent aid to Chile.
