Ministry of Agriculture has a busy week ahead

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) has a very busy week ahead.

On Wednesday, March 15, MAFSE is holding a Sustainable Gardening Training at Double Head Cabbage in the Belize District starting at 9:00 am.

Also on Wednesday, the Belize Bureau of Standards, which falls under the aegis of MAFSE, is holding the Clean Energy Transition Fair 2023, March 15 at the Belmopan Civic Center starting at 9:00 am.

From 8:00 am to 12:00, MAFSE’S Aquaculture Unit is participating in the presentation of two aquaculture manuals, the Tilapia and Pacific Ocean Snapper Aquaculture Manuals, for use in Central America and the Dominican Republic. This presentation is happening at the University of Belize in Central Farm.

Plus, at 10:00 am, the Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA) will be inaugurating a new corral at the Orange Walk Yo Creek Agriculture Station.

On Thursday, March 16, the agriculture people will be celebrating the 2023 San Antonio Agriculture & Culture Day in San Antonio in the Cayo District as of 9:30 am.

That same day, some of the officers will be conducting training on alternative feed for backyard chicken. That will be at San Román Rio Hondo in the Orange Walk District beginning at 9:00 am. MAFSE is also joining and inviting you to the virtual Agriculture Green House Gas Data Collection Forum at 10:00 am.

Friday, March 17, will be extremely busy with three activities. The Value Chain Workshop will be conducted by consultants from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the National Agriculture & Trade Show Grounds Conference Room in Belmopan.

There’s also the Biological Control Training at Maskall in the Belize District. That session gets underway at 9:00 am. One hour later, the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) will be launching the new BMDC packaged rice, Big Falls Rice at Big Falls in the Toledo District.
