Women’s Month highlight: Monique Usher ~ Manager of Small Business Development Center (SBDCBelize)

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: In celebrating women’s month, around the country, outstanding Belizean women are being highlighted for their dedication and commitment to Belize’s growth and development.

With the support of peers and the programs she has implemented, Monique Usher who hails from Santa Elena Town has contributed to the economic growth and development of Belize.

She currently works at the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) as the Manager of the Small Business Development Center (SBDCBelize).

With extensive experience in small business growth and entrepreneurship, Monique has a wide range of skills.

Her business studies were put to good use when she worked for her family business where she gained hands-on experience with business operations. She has also served as a mentor and advisor to numerous small businesses and entrepreneurs in Belize.

Her best work experiences are facilitating training to business owners, students, women’s groups, residents of remote communities, and prisoners.

In her current role at BELTRAIDE, Monique oversees the operations of the SBDCBelize, which provides a range of services to small businesses and entrepreneurs, including business advisory services, training and capacity building, and access to financing.

She is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to support the growth and development of small businesses in Belize and for building partnerships with other organizations and stakeholders in the business community. Serving her team brings her great joy in seeing them excel in their career and improve the lives of many MSMEs.

Monique’s dedication and expertise in small business development have allowed her to represent the country both locally and internationally.

In February 2020, the U.S. Embassy named her wonder woman for February and later nominated her to participate in the U.S. State Department’s flagship International Visitor’s Leadership Program.

With over almost a decade working experience, she wishes to continue to serve in areas to support socio-economic growth.
