Posted: Wednesday, March 29, 2023. 8:43 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Special Envoy for the development of families and children, Rossana Briceño features outstanding Belizean women making a difference in Belize every week.

Today’s feature is on Dr. Uldine Wright making her impact in her family, community and career.

Dr. Uldine Kathleen Wright was born in Valley Community, Stann Creek to Alves Wright and Geraldine Wright.

She is the second child of 3 girls. Growing up in a home of girls, she was thought from a young age that a woman can be anything that she chooses to be.

Throughout her childhood, her parents owned a trucking business, and some of her most cherished moments as a child were passing tools and holding the lights for her father while he did repairs on trucks and trailers. This not only taught her the value of hard work, but also enabled her to confidently discuss and assist in the diagnostics and repairs of mechanical issues.

Dr. Wright grew up in the Stann Creek Valley and holds a Doctor in Medicine Degree from Latin American School of Medicine, Cuba.

She served her community as an Emergency Physician and Medical Officer in the Department of General Surgery at the Southern Regional Hospital, Dangriga for 7 years.

She also volunteered in mobile medical clinics and palliative care during this time.

Since February 2015, Dr. Wright served on the executive body of the Belize Medical and Dental Association and was the president of the association up until her resignation in 2022 when she left the country for professional development.

Dr. Wright is currently pursuing her Master of Medicine Degree in General Surgery in Guyana.

Dr. Wright served as Vice Chair of Valley Community Village Council 2019-2022, where she was a strong advocate for the preservation of the Mayan Mountains and rivers of Stann Creek Valley that are under threat by deforestation and mining.

Her proudest achievements are being the wife of Dr. Ovidio Rodriguez and the mother of two precious little girls: Heavenly and Angelina Rodriguez.

Her biggest goal in life is to be the example of a virtuous woman for her daughters.
