Godwin Haylock emerges as new UDP standard bearer for Queen Square

By Breaking Belize News Staff: In a historic moment for Queen Square electoral division, Godwin Haylock has been declared as the new United Democratic Party (UDP) standard bearer, defeating Shane Williams in the convention held at St. John’s Anglican Primary School compound today.

This marks the first time in the division’s history that a Barrow family member is not representing the UDP in the upcoming general election. Haylock secured 736 out of 860 total ballots, with Williams receiving 119 and 5 ballots being rejected.

Haylock will now replace current area representative Denise Barrow, who won in the November 2020 election. The Barrow family had held the seat for a combined 39 years, including former UDP Party leader and three-time Prime Minister Dean Barrow.
