Belize to host 1st annual Yucatec Maya public speaking contest

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The ABDISA community from San Antonio, Cayo along with Oxmul Coffee, AJ Tz’ib Masewal, the San Antonio Community Library and the San Antonio Village Council will host the first Annual Yucatec Maya Public Speaking Contest.

The contest is open to children from ages 10 to 13.

On May 3, 2023, the contestants will meet at 5pm at the San Antonio Community Library to learn more about the contest.

The event is being held in an effort to revive the Yucatec Maya Language in our community.

“Speaking Yucatec Maya is important for all of us, be proud of it, celebrate it! We thank all our partners,” Belize Yucatec Maya says.
