International News: Pope Francis and team engages in mission for paving peace in Ukraine

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Vatican announced on Saturday that Pope Francis and an Italian cardinal have pledged to go on a mission towards paving the path for peace in Ukraine.

According to the Associated Press, the Pontiff and cardinal Matteo Zuppi will engage in peace talks.

Last week, Pope Francis met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Vatican.

And last month, the Pontiff pointed to a peace mission that the Vatican was involved in.

“I can confirm that Pope Francis has tasked Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, archbishop of Bologna and president of the Italian Bishops Conference, with conducting a mission, in agreement with the (Vatican) Secretariat of State, that would contribute to easing the tensions in the conflict in Ukraine, in the hope, never given up by the Holy Father, that this can launch paths of peace,” a Vatican spokesperson said.

“The timings of such a mission, and its ways, are currently under study,” the spokesman added.
