Benny’s Belize Hurricanes take lead in BEBL playoffs on 85-67 win over Griga Dream Ballers

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Benny’s Belize Hurricanes lead the three-game Belize Elite Basketball League semifinals 1-0 over the Griga Dream Ballers after their 85-67 win at the Belize City Civic Center on Friday night.

Tyrie Orosco led the way for the Canes with 19 points, 9 rebounds, two assists, and a block. Victor Evans added 18 points with four boards to go with it. Kris Frazier was good for 17 points, 8 rebounds, and a steal. Glency Lopez scored ten points, made three assists and three steals.

For the Griga Dream Ballers, their main man was Delvon Henderson, who scored 16 points and pulled four rebounds. Edgar Mitchell contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Dominic Woodson scored 11 points and pulled 10 rebounds. D’von Campbell also had 11 points and two rebounds. Daniel Conorquie scored ten points and pulled eight boards along with three assists.

The Belize Hurricanes made 31 of 71 attempts from the field for a 43.7 shooting percentage. From outside the perimeter, they converted three out of 6 for 50% effectiveness. They made 10 turnovers to the Dream Ballers 15.

The Dream Ballers shooting was 37.9% scoring 25 of 66 attempts from the field. Additionally, they scored six out of 24 three-pointers for 30% shooting.

The series now turns to Griga on Friday night at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga where the Belize Hurricanes are hoping to finish it rather than come back to Belize City on Friday, June 16.

Meanwhile, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, who lead the other series 1-0, are hoping to close it off tonight over the Orange Walk Running Rebels, at 9:00 pm at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The Tiger Sharks won Game 1 77-73 last Friday in Orange Walk.
