Edward Mauricio Guillen arraigned on a charge of aggravated assault with a machete

Posted: Sunday, June 11, 2023. 10:59 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Los Lagos-based construction worker Edward Mauricio Guillen, originally from the Cayo District, was charged this week with aggravated assault with a deadly instrument after allegedly pulling a machete on one Keith Cole outside a Ladyville supermarket on June 4.

Guillen told Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford that there was a misunderstanding between himself and another man on their way home and he called the police for help. However, he claimed he could not make himself understood to the responding police officer as he, Guillen, only spoke Spanish, and the officer, Cole, only spoke English.

Guillen further denied carrying a machete or aggressing the officer. His guilty plea was substituted due to his explanation and was offered and met bail of $2,000.

Guillen is due back in court on August 1, 2023. His bail was granted with conditions in which Guillen must provide proof of where he will be living and he is not to interfere with the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses.
