International News: Taiwan sees #MeToo wave of allegations following Netflix show

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A Netflix show has ignited a #MeToo movement in Taiwan with a wave of sexual harassment and assault allegations.

According to the BBC, over 90 people have spoken out accusing people across the country of sexual harassment.

In addition, several senior officials of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party have resigned following the movement.

Allegations have been made against doctors, professors, sporting umpires and YouTubers.

President Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan’s first female leader, has apologised and vowed reform.

The local TV drama, Wave Makers is a show about Taiwanese political staffers working on an election. The show debuted in April.
