Belize City Council applying to extend parking meter pilot project

Posted: Sunday, June 18, 2023. 10:29 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Council’s parking meter pilot project came to an end in March; however, the council is trying to extend the life of the project.

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner confirmed that the council has applied to the central government for an extension of the project, which he says has been well received by city residents.

The council implemented the pilot project on Albert Street and Newtown Barracks in an effort to relieve traffic jams and ensure that everyone has access to parking in these areas.

Wagner also said that the project has been so successful, the council is now considering expanding it to include other areas of Belize City.

Breaking Belize News (BBN) notes that the project was met with major criticisms from vendors in Digi Park, who say that the meters have reduced the number of customers they have seen over the period of the pilot project.
