Broad area of low pressure in the Atlantic has 90 percent chance of strengthening in next 48 hours

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Weather experts are monitoring showers in two areas within the Central Tropical Atlantic, one of which has a 90 percent chance of strengthening in the next 48 hours.

The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that showers and thunderstorms continue to become better organized in association with a broad area of low pressure located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

“Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is expected to form over the next day or so,” the NHC said.

Forecasters say that the weather system is projected to move westward at 15 to 20 miles per hour across the central tropical Atlantic. Further development, if it occurs, is expected towards the middle part of the week.

The second system only has a 10 percent chance of developing within the next 48 hours.
