Man claims ownership of unlicensed gun found inside car with two others, all 3 remanded to prison

By Breaking Belize News Staff: On Friday, police searched a vehicle with three occupants inside and found an illegal firearm. One of the occupants, 24-year-old Clinton Medina, claimed the weapon, however, the prosecution did not withdraw the charges from the other two.

Medina along with the driver, Luis Marin, and the other passenger Clifford Ferguson, were each charged with one count of kept unlicensed firearm and one count of kept unlicensed ammunition. Medina pleaded guilty to both counts while the other co-accused pleaded not guilty.

Despite Medina’s guilty plea, the prosecution said that a directive would have to come from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions as to whether or not to drop the charges from the other two.

Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson reserved sentencing for Monday, June 26, at which time Ferguson and Marin will learn their fates.

They were all remanded to the Belize Central Prison until then.
