Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman is Creative Designer Joanna Romero!

Posted: Wednesday, June 28, 2023. 9:56 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceño features outstanding Belizean women making a difference in Belize every week.

Today’s feature is on creative designer, Joanna Romero.

Romero is the proud owner and creative designer of Ameli Collective—a handmade clay jewelry brand that was founded in February 2021 and officially launched in November 2021.

“I first learned about the Polymer Clay Community on social media in 2020 during the pandemic lockdown and I instantly felt inspired to create using this form of art medium that was uncommon in Belize at the time. Despite having little to no starting capital, I took a leap of faith and decided to take the risk of investing in some materials but little did I know it would take 9 months for me to be fully prepared to launch,” Romero said.

Romero says that she has always felt an entrepreneurial spirit.

“Despite not having any artistic background, my self-motivated attitude and mentality drove me to fulfill a small part of my dream—to someday become a full-time entrepreneur! As a jewelry brand, I intend to create unique pieces that is an extension of yourself, that is meaningful, that tells a story, and that is comfortable, high quality, and can be worn day after day,” she added.

Over the last year, Romero says that she has created the most beautiful clay earrings for many people in Belize and abroad including Brides, Miss World Belize, Ambassadors, and even for the President of Taiwan.

“My hands created a special pair of earrings that were thoughtfully gifted to President Tsai Ing-Wen, but my most proudest accomplishment is when I became an official sponsor of the Rotary Club of Belmopan in November of last year where all proceeds went towards the Belize Children’s Project,” Romero expressed.

Romero says that her love for creating clay earrings has led her to explore other forms of handmade jewelry such as Necklaces.

She recently launched her first line of 14K Gold Filled HAND-STAMPED Initial Necklaces.

Romero’s Gold-filled jewelry is currently under the works, and is expected to fully launch by December of 2023.

“Being able to offer other jewelry options than just earrings has been a major accomplishment because you get to fearlessly express your individuality, uniqueness, by wearing a piece of handmade jewelry,” Romero commented.
