The event also marks the commencement of a year-long celebration for the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the regional grouping.

The meeting is set to tackle an array of pressing issues that the Community faces, such as food security, climate change, climate finance, the ongoing situation in Haiti, security concerns, external relations, and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Several distinguished international guests will be in attendance, including the President of Rwanda, H.E. Paul Kagame, UN Secretary-General, H.E. Antonio Guterres, and the President-Designate of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28), H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jabe. The US Secretary-of-State, Mr. Anthony Blinken, Minority Leader in the US House of Representatives, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Han Duck-Soo will also be participating in the meetings.

The Opening Ceremony, which took place at the Hyatt Regency in Port-of-Spain, was attended by various regional leaders, including Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, outgoing Chairman Prime Minister Philip Davis of The Bahamas, host Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

A special commemorative ceremony is scheduled for today, Tuesday, 4th July, the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty that established CARICOM. The ceremony will be held at Chaguaramas, the historical site of the original treaty signing, and will feature a Flag Raising event, a Time Capsule planting, and speeches by the CARICOM Chairman and the host Prime Minister.

The day’s agenda also includes a business session, during which representatives of foreign governments and heads of international organizations will be invited to pay tributes to CARICOM in honor of its milestone anniversary.

A CARICOM 50th Anniversary Concert featuring regional cultural artistes is also planned, promising a variety of performances in song, dance, steel band music, and other artforms.
