American national killed, pregnant woman critical after van runs them over in Dangriga

By Breaking Belize News Staff: An American national is dead and a pregnant woman is in critical condition after both were run over by a van in Dangriga on Wednesday afternoon while waiting for a bus.

According to police, Michael Stuart Scott, an 86-year-old American retiree residing in the Hummingbird community and Glenda Banegas, 30, who is pregnant, were waiting for a bus at mile 1 1/2 on George Price Drive in Dangriga Town when an out of control van hit them.

The white Chrysler van, was driven at the time by Ezekiel Cacho, a 59-year-old electrician, when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and hit both Scott and Banegas causing serious injuries to both. Scott died from his injuries on the scene while Banegas was rushed to the nearby Southern Regional Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

A Notice of Intended Prosecution was issued to Cacho, who is now detained pending further investigation.
