17 years for Leroy Lorenzo in killing of 50-year-old American Nurse in Hopkins following manslaughter plea

By Aaron Humes: On Friday in the High Court, Justice Antoinette Moore sentenced Leroy Lorenzo of Hopkins, Stann Creek District to 17 years in prison on a plea of manslaughter.

He was accused of stabbing his American girlfriend to death and then dumping her in the garbage – but Lorenzo, 32, pleaded down from murder to the lesser charge of manslaughter of 50-year-old nurse Wendi Dardano as advised by defense counsel Oscar Selgado.

On November 30, 2019, in Hopkins, Lorenzo and Dardano had been drinking together before retiring to Dardano’s residence on Petro Caribe Road. But they began an argument that ended in Lorenzo allegedly stabbing Dardano multiple times to the chest before hiding her body in a blue garbage bin.

Lorenzo was detained and charged after leading a Justice of the Peace to the murder weapon.
