UDP Belize Rural South Executive Committee refuses to join protest in San Pedro during investment summit

By Breaking Belize News Staff: In an official statement issued on Thursday, the United Democratic Party (UDP) Belize Rural South (BRS) Executive Committee has chosen not to endorse the protest agenda set forth by the UDP Belize City Central Headquarters. The protests are scheduled to coincide with The Belize Investment Summit on Thursday and Friday, August 31 and September 1, 2023 being held in San Pedro.

The planned protests, designed to vocalize the concerns over Minister Andre Perez’s actions, will be held on Ambergris Caye. Although the BRS UDP Executive acknowledged Minister Perez’s declining integrity as the Area Representative, they emphasized their belief in due process. The committee has expressed their intentions to wait for the Government of Belize’s full investigation report regarding the allegations against Minister Perez. Based on the outcomes of this investigation, they will determine their next course of action.

The statement further highlights that both the UDP Mayoral candidate and the Belize Rural South Executive and Standard bearer disagree with the plans, stating they do not resonate with the island’s culture. As a result, the UDP BRS has made it clear that they will abstain from participating in the proposed protests.
