Phillip Goldson bust damaged in early morning crash

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A historic bust at the entrance to the Philip Goldson Highway became the latest casualty in a string of traffic accidents, as a reportedly intoxicated taxi driver collided with it in the early hours of this morning.

At approximately 3:00 AM, a taxi minivan veered off course on the roundabout leading to the Philip Goldson Highway and collided head-on with the bust of the revered national figure, Philip Goldson. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the taxi driver appeared drunk, showing signs of staggering upon emerging from the vehicle.

Police were swift to respond, and the driver, identified as Mervin Elvis Domingo, was taken into custody. Authorities announced that Domingo was facing two charges in connection with the accident: “Drove motor vehicle without due care and attention” and “Drove a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit”.

Residents and officials alike have expressed their dismay at the damage to the bust, a longstanding symbol of national pride.
