Man arrested dancing in carnival with unlicensed, loaded gun

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A man who was enjoying the carnival road march a little too much this weekend was arrested by police who found him dancing away behind a truck with an unlicensed, loaded 9mm pistol.

Leroy Ramsey, 37, a North Creek resident of Belize City was arraigned in court this morning to answer to one count of kept unlicensed firearm and one count of kept unlicensed ammunition.

He pleaded not guilty but due to the nature of the offence, he was remanded to prison.

According to police reports, on Saturday, September 9, during the carnival road march as it was making its way on to Vernon Street, a concerned citizen notified officers that there was a man seen brandishing a gun in a sling bag across his shoulders.

Police soon spotted Ramsey, who matched the description and police conducted a search and found the gun. He was subsequently arrested.
