Dining out more expensive as inflation rate hits 12% in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  Belizeans enjoy dining out, particularly for celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries, but the expense of such outings has risen.

Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) showed that the overall Restaurants and Accommodation Services had an inflation rate of 12.6 percent for the month of July 2023, reflecting higher prices for restaurant and cafe services as well as increased hotel accommodation rates.

In addition, the overall food category for food products registered an inflation rate of 13% for July 2023 when compared to July 2022.

Prices across all types of food products are still considerably higher than they were during the same month of last year.
