Underrating YOUTH leadership in Belize!

Leadership in Belize continues to take on a culture of a sport of mostly men and older men.

Are Belizean leaders and politicians fixated on the belief that youth leadership and youths in politics are unable to serve?

Popular Belize City councilor, Micah Goodin has faced turbulence throughout his political career for sometimes questioning the status quo and for his vociferous character, standing for what he believes in.

As municipal elections are months away, countrywide within both major political parties, there is a disparity especially among youth aspiring candidates.

Another popular Belize City councilor, Allan Pollard is being railed against for the show of support and his aspirations for the Mayoral seat in Belize City.

Another sitting councilor, a colleague of Pollard made public his sentiments mentioning both Micah and Allan and criticizing Pollard for participating in the Independence Day parade using his own campaign T-shirts.

“Don’t make your ego get ahead of you. You must understand exactly what you want, where you want to go. And you work inside the party, you know, work against the party. Nobody does that. The party is all of us, but we have leaders and they are a process in a party. And if you can’t understand that then, I think you’re in the wrong place,” the councilor stated.

In the Cayo District, there are numerous reports of mounting pressure to endorse party favorites even if it involves excluding young aspirants.

Every election, municipal and general should provide an opportunity for Belizeans young and old to choose leaders with conviction and commitment to service to country.
