Potential new tropical storm brewing in the Atlantic

By Horace Palacio: An area of disturbance in the Atlantic has caught the attention of the National Hurricane Center (NHC). As of Sunday, 8 a.m., the NHC pointed out a “broad area of low pressure” situated several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, indicating potential development into a tropical depression or storm later this week.

The current system appeared somewhat disorganized on Sunday morning. However, forecasters believe the prevailing conditions in the region could favor its development in the coming days. As the system advances, it’s predicted to travel westward across the central and western tropical Atlantic.

The NHC has provided a development probability estimate: a 60% chance over the ensuing two days and a sharp jump to a 90% chance of development within the week.

In related news, Tropical Depression Sean seems to be weakening, with forecasts predicting its downgrade to a remnant low in the near future.
