Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government drill new production well for Santa Rosa and San Roman, Stann Creek

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government have successfully drilled a new production well for Santa Rosa and San Roman, Stann Creek.

Both villages share a rural water system and face significant water scarcity challenges, making it one of the Ministry of Rural Transformation’s priority areas.

Despite months of unsuccessful drilling efforts by the Ministry, a breakthrough was achieved.

The Ministry initiated a geo-resistivity survey to pinpoint potential water sources more accurately.

Among the 3 surveys conducted, the initial results revealed very low resistivity.

However, the last survey conducted, identified a location with significantly lower resistivity.

It was at this point that the Ministry and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Unit (RWSSU) team could finally celebrate a remarkable success. After drilling at a depth of 95 feet, they struck water that flowed at a rate of 130 gallons per minute.

“The RWSSU team exhibited unwavering dedication in ensuring the productivity of this newly drilled production well. To validate its capabilities, they conducted an exhaustive 13-hour aquifer test, commencing at 4 p.m. and concluding at 5:00 a.m,” the Ministry noted.

The Ministry maintains resolute in its commitment to ensure clean and safe water sources, in alignment with the objectives of SDG 6 and Plan Belize.
