Breaking Barriers, Prestigious Miss Universe pageant welcomes 1st mom contestant with Guatemala’s Michelle Cohn

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: For the first time in over 70 years, the prestigious Miss Universe pageant has welcomed its first contestant who is a mother, Guatemala’s Miss Universe Michelle Cohn.

Cohn is the proud mother of 2 children and garnered the crown emerging victorious among 15 contestants in her country.

Cohn, 28, is making history as she becomes the first mother to participate in the long-running beauty contest.

Last year, the Miss Universe Organization updated the selection process to accept married women and mothers.

Previously, the organization only allowed single women, aged between 18 and 28, who have never been married or had children.

And, Cohn, an entrepreneur and model is proud to be able to represent her country in the competition.

“The universe gave me a chance, and here I am taking it wholeheartedly and eagerly,” Cohn said.

“A little over a year ago, I would have thought this was impossible and today I am here looking to be the first mother to represent Guatemala to the universe. Here I am today, once again proving what we as women can accomplish,” Cohn added.

The beauty ambassadors are arriving in El Salvador and exploring the country’s diverse food and cultures.

The Miss Universe 2023 contest will be held over a number of weeks in El Salvador with the winner crowned at the grand finale on November 18.
