Ana López wins Individual Triathlon, Relay Triathlon

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Splash’s Ana López Camp started on Sunday in Belize City winning both the Belize City Individual Women’s Triathlon and the Elite Mixed Relay Triathlon in Belize City.

López teamed up with Cross Country Cycling Champion Oscar Quiroz and long distance runner Albert Davis to conquer the Relay Triathlon. As she came out the water completing the 800 yard swim, López handed over to Quiroz but, unlike the athletes who just competed in the Relay Triathlon, she continued on her own in her quest do the Women’s Individual Triathlon, jumping on a  bike for an 11.42-mile race and later on running 3.1 miles, which is what she is known for. And López did so in style, winning that race as well.

Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel won the Men’s Individual Triathlon. Mauro Cucul was second and Kian Trejo was third.

“Thanks to Albert Davis and Oscar Quiroz,” López said in a statement on social media in which she thanked sponsor Patricia Ramirez from Splash Dive.

“They are strong guys with a passion for what they love to do. Once more thankful to the Lord for life, strength, perseverance to do 1st place in the female individual. I had never ridden a racing bike but I got on it and pedal and pedal. It was tiring but in the end it was fun to put my mind on that challenge and I accomplished it with all those who supported me on this event.”

Davis was ecstatic as well.

“First place Elite mix relay!” David said in a social media post.

“Today was a special day for me! Had the privilege of having the Cross Country Champ on my team and the wonder woman of Belize! Belize Triathlon Association/Belize City Council Triathlon! Just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who assisted in such a wonderful event!”
