Two Police officers injured in stabbing incident in San Pedro

By Horace Palacio: In a shocking turn of events early Wednesday morning, two police officers were seriously injured in a stabbing incident near San Pedro High School. The attack occurred around 12:20 AM, sparking a swift response from local authorities.

The victims, identified as Officer Edwin Reid, 35, and Officer Kerian Mena, 32, were reportedly walking along the corner of Laguna Drive and Spider Lily Street, heading towards the Police barracks, when they were confronted by an assailant. According to police reports, the suspect, described as a slim-built Hispanic male with a short haircut, wearing a striped purple t-shirt and black shorts, verbally accosted the officers before assaulting them with a knife.

Officer Reid sustained stab wounds to his left elbow and thigh, while Officer Mena suffered injuries to his right chest and upper back. The attacker subsequently fled the scene.

Authorities responded promptly to the incident, with Scene of Crime (SOC) Technician William Wade processing the scene and issuing medico forms. Officer Mena, after receiving treatment, was discharged with his injuries classified as wounding. Officer Reid remains hospitalized in stable condition, under close observation.

The Belize Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward, assuring confidentiality and seeking the community’s assistance in bringing justice to this unsettling event.
