By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The 2023 World Pok Ta Pok Championship was hosted in Belize over the weekend.

The Mexico team, Mexico Negro, emerged victorious, seizing the 2023 Pok Ta Pok World Cup Male Championship title in a fiercely contested match against Belize’s K’iinich Ajaw team.

Belize’s outgoing champion, Ek’ Balam, showcased their prowess by clinching third place after a hard-fought battle against the Mexico Blanco team, who secured the fourth spot.

In the female division, the competition was just as fierce.

Guatemala dazzled with skill and determination, ultimately outshining El Salvador to claim the coveted championship title.

In the individual tournament, the spotlight was on El Salvador’s Fabio Morales, who secured first place.

Bethwel Magania and Jadiel Cantun, both from Belize, clinched second and third place, respectively.

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) extended congratulations to all winners and to Belizean athletes who proudly represented us on the international stage.
