Caye Caulker man critically injured in brutal nighttime chopping attack

Posted: Monday, January 8, 2024. 6:15 am CST.

By Horace Palacio: Caye Caulker police have reported a violent chopping incident that took place late Sunday night, January 7, 2024.

The incident came to light when Caye Caulker Police, while on mobile patrol on Estrella Street in Caye Caulker Village, discovered 37-year-old Belizean laborer Tito Rosado Jr., sitting on the street, bleeding from multiple injuries. The encounter happened around 11:40 PM.

Rosado, who resides on Estrella Street, was found with cut wounds to the left side of his head and his right arm. He was immediately transported to the Caye Caulker Health Center for urgent medical care. Following initial treatment, Rosado was then ferried to Belize City for further medical attention. He is reportedly in a critical but stable condition.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Rosado was in the Black Neighborhood area at the far end of Estrella Street, heading towards the back beach, when he was approached by an unknown group of males. A struggle ensued, during which Rosado sustained his injuries.

The police visited the scene of the incident and canvassed the area but were unable to gather any substantial information. The perpetrators remain unidentified, and the motive behind the attack is still unclear.

The Caye Caulker Police Department is investigating the matter and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
